"About the making of this book. The type: it is composed on the Monotype machine. It is called Bell, for its designer, John Bell,... the size used is 12 point. The paper: It is made by the Worthy Paper Company of Springfield, Massachusetts. ,,, The illustrations: ...The colored illustrations are reproduced in four-color process; the charcoal drawings are reproduced by highlight halftones, all through the photo-engraving process. The binding: Is a rough, natural homespun, the lettering stamped upon it having been drawn by the illustrator. The type was set up by the Haddon Craftsmen who also printed this volume. The book was bound by Russell-Rutter, Inc. The colored illustarations were printed by the Duenewald Printing Corporation." --Colophon.
Description
The adventures of a spirited boy growing up in a Mississippi River town in the nineteenth century, as he tries a new method for curing warts, witnesses a murder, runs away to an island and pretends to be a pirate, watches his own funeral, and alls for the new girl in the neighborhood.
