Description
Rhode Island, the 'Ocean State', is the summer home of the blue shark. Blue sharks are among the most abundant, and thus most influential species on Earth. Like many shark species, overfishing has had an impactful effect on the state of this animal's survival. In 2008, an Ocean Opportunity field team, along with Dr. Brad Wetherbee, a shark researcher from the University of Rhode Island, ventured more than 30 miles offshore to capture this neighbor on film. This short film was put together to provide our community with a glimpse of the blue shark, and inspire a renewed appreciation for this beautiful animal.
